Finding my footing in Beyond Earth was tougher than it’s been in most Civs because, like most sci-fi games, it’s so alien and unfamiliar. Faction design is basically what we’re accustomed to from Civ 5, with the notable absence of faction-specific military or trade units. However, none of them has the recognition or implied personality of other Civ games’ historical leaders, and none have any memorable traits of their own. The eight all-human faction choices, based on hypothetical future-Earth alliances like the Pan-Asian Cooperative and the Slavic Federation, are unexciting each has a small bonus to espionage or city growth or what have you, and you get to select from an extra menu of similar bonuses to layer on top of the cultural one (such as additional cash or culture generation), so there’s some decent customization there. I dont think that the devs, no matter how hard they try, would be able to convince people that it isnt SMAC 2, and that will always work against them that's part of why BE didn't do so well. That's not the only way they could do it, but it is one. Special districts for each Affinity/Hybrid Affinity would be badass (Temple of Harmony, Node District, Centre of Purity, for some ideas). That being said, I think if they took BE, made it in Civ VI's engine, and added more flavour to everything (ala CODEX), they'd have a pretty damned good game. Myabe have a late game event where sometimes an alien full planetary invasion happens. (lets say that the three big affinitys were warring to decide the correct ideology and one other guy called intelligent aliens, and this is the stage the second game starts into.) A intelligent alien race in orbit is researching and messing with the humans, infecting biology and machine alike on the planet, one of the endings could be invading their ship. I think it would be cool to have random scripted events like if your going supremacy a virus can break out and cities could be infected and go berzerk (become city states unless you cure them), or actually the contact ending from the first game could add some things if you wanted to continue the story from the first game. actually I'm not sure if that would really work out well. I would love to see a new and improved beyond earth game, maybe with access to build on the moon with use of short range teleporters after its researched and launching one, kinda like the caves from age of wonders 3. ![]()
